Labor Day, ah! The day office workers celebrate all the manual laborers by grilling burgers and going swimming, and thousands of women schedule their birth. While it’s great to get away from the daily grind of computers, accounts, and air-conditioning every now and then, most corporate job holders have never gotten to experience what they are celebrating.

Matt Longing, CEO of a New England fast food chain his father started in the eighties said, “My dad was lucky. I mean, I appreciate everything he did, but he was the one who got to get his hands dirty. He spent weeks building the first restaurant, like, this place is literally his blood, sweat, and sore back. Now here I am all these years later, stuck in a cushioned chair and a comfy office.”

Matt is not alone in this sentiment, others like him have said many of the same things. Because of these and other reasons, a new holiday has been added to the 2020 calendar the day after Labor Day called “Amish Day”. People are encouraged to participate in any way they see fit, but many public celebrations will feature fence building, feed totin’, grass cutting, hay hauling, and just about every other hot and sweaty job you can imagine, with a whole lot of volleyball when all the work is done.

Even those that have a hard working job, are encouraged to join the fun later in the afternoon, instead of sitting at home watching TV or playing video games. Anyone wanting to host a public celebration is encouraged to share this article along with a description of the chores you prepared for attendees.
